CNP Congratulates Garofano on appointment as Naval War College Dean of Academics

Professor John F. Garafano
The Center for National Policy congratulates Professor John F. Garafano on becoming the Naval War College's new Dean of Academics. Garofano serves on the Center's Future Force Project advisory group and also as Future Forces Project Fellow, helping develop ideas for CNP's "Agility Across the Spectrum" report, released in December.

Dr. Garofano, currently in the War College's Strategy & Policy Department, will assume this new post on August 17.  At the War College he lectures on topics including intelligence failures in the Korean War, civil military relations, the Goldwater-Nichols Act of 1984, and strategy and policy in the Vietnam War. His other areas of expertise include crisis decision making, military and humanitarian intervention, and Congress and defense policy. Throughout his career, he has also taught as the Chuo University in Tokyo, the U.S. Army War College, Amherst, Hampshire, Smith, Mt. Holyoke, the University of Massachusetts, the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Southern California .

His works include The Intervention Debate: Doctrine, Criteria, and Judgment and A Doctrine of Engagement: Major Foreign Policy Speeches of the Clinton Presidency. He has also been featured in numerous national and international security publications including Orbis: A Journal of World Affairs, International Security, Asian Survey, Political Science Quarterly, Wilson Quarterly, and the National Interest and many others.

Dr. Garofano received his B.A. from Bates College , his M.A. from both the School of Advanced International Studies at the Johns Hopkins University and Cornell University , and his Ph.D. from Cornell University .
